Last week I purchased several home items from one of the DG stores in my area (Frederica St. location). I didn't measure my house beforehand and, unfortunately, several of the items did not fit into the spaces I needed them to fill. I took the items (all unopened), along with my receipt, to the location nearest my home (Carter Rd location) in order to return them. Both the cashier (older man, mustached)and the manager (Eli, female) were very rude. I was first told by the cashier that it was too late to do any returns (it was 8:45 p.m.). I asked to see a manager. She came out of the office with a disgusted look on her face and I could tell that she was going to enjoy every moment of denying me my return. I was correct in my assumption. She said that even if it wasn't too late, she still couldn't accept it due to a new DG policy. The new policy, which I could find no mention of online, says that any items purchased at a DG store must be returned to that same store. It didn't make sense to me (out of town/traveling purchases?), so I asked why. She said that "trashy people will steal from one store then try to take it back to another." Again, it made no sense to me (if the items were stolen, why would the customer have a receipt?), so I asked why again. She became quite hostile at this point and said "it don't matter cause' we closed now N-E-Ways" (emphasis and pauses complete with head and head rolls, it was very Jerry Springer-like in origin). She crossed her arms and stared at me while I gathered my items back up, then she followed me to the door and locked it behind me. Now, it's been a minute since I have been employeed in a department type store but unless things have radically changed, an employee who treated a customer in this manner would have been fired on the spot. For a manager to behave in this manner was unthinkable. Really says something about the company as a whole.
