Purchased a battery powered tool and battery using combination of store credit and credit card. Upon getting home I realized I had inadvertently picked up a 18v tool incompatible with the 12v battery. Attempted to return the tool and exchange for a compatible 12v one. Home Depot stocks two different versions (18v and 12v) of the tool that have the exact same price. I had intended to purchase the 12v version of the tool and battery, unfortunately I picked an 18v tool from stock instead of the correct 12v. Both versions of the tool are exactly the same price making it very easy to confuse them. When I returned to the store to correct this over site, Home Depot verification system denied the return. Store employees and manager said there was nothing they could do. Called the verification system number provided by the store and was told there was nothing that could be done. This makes no sense. Home Depot was unwilling to provide any reasonable explanation for the denial. I am not asking for any return of funds. I am asking for an exchange for the correct tool that sells for the exact price that I paid for the incorrect item. Store manager agreed that my request was reasonable but since the verification system denied the exchange, there was nothing he could do. Since, I partially paid with a credit card, I plan to dispute the charge. I have been shopping at Home Depot without any issue for 30 years. I am so upset with Home Depot's lack of support that I will not return. Oh by the way, I have my receipt. I have read Home Depot's posted return policy and I believe that I am compliant. Home Depot, I clearly don't understand your treatment of a long term customer and complete inability to provide any explanation for this decision beyond "There is nothing that can be done". I asked to have this issue elevated to corporate management, and was told that if I had signed up for the loyalty program that I would not have had a problem with the exchange. I guess being a 30 year customer is not loyal enough to be treated fairly and equitably.
