I used to return multiple items to Home Depot well over the 90-day return policy. My local store had kind of an unwritten rule that they would return items up to 1 year old, especially if you used the same credit card and it was on file. ALL THAT HAS CHANGED. Just within the last 6 months, both Home Depot and Lowe's have started being very strict about not accepting returns outside of the stated return policy window. My guess is that Corporate looked at this issue and realized they were losing a lot of money by having such lenient return policies, so I think all these changes are coming from higher up. I have even taken stuff back within the return policy window and been rejected for small, miscellaneous details, and even had one associate tell me he couldn't take back a bathroom faucet back because it was used and not brand new. I told him that of course it was used and it started leaking from the water side of the faucet tip, which is why I was bringing it back, and he insisted he could not take it back because it wasn't brand new. So I guess next time you go to Home Depot or Lowe's, make sure every single part/packaging is included, be within the return window, and be ready to fight and state your case as to why you should get the return. The days when we could bring stuff back 11 months later without a receipt are now over, both at Home Depot and Lowe's. It must have been a corporate decision.
