I purchased a load of items from Fall clearance online. My store didn't carry most of the items so I had no idea what they would look like in person but I took the chance anyway as I could return to the store as long as I had my receipt. Some items arrived missing pieces and some were just not what I thought so I brought those items back to the store along with my receipt and credit card used. The bar code on my receipt wasn't being taken by the store register so the manager was called to advise and help. It was finally decided to return as No Receipt and I was advised that I could only receive store credit. I asked why as my receipt showed how I purchased and I had the card. Manager advised me she was doing me a favor and that she could be giving me pennies on dollar as fall items were now 90% off. I pointed out that I had a receipt proving what I paid but she brushed me off saying Michael's fine print says all returns on seasonal items can only get store credit. I told her this policy was never told to me and I wouldn't have taken a chance on items that have a limited return policy. She advised that the policy was there and I said I would look at it later. I just did and policy says 90 days WITH RECEIPT. Looks like Michael's is trying not to give credits or cash refunds but gift cards so the money doesn't leave the store. This is unfortunate as I'm an impulse buyer who usually keeps everything but now I will curtail that at Michael's.
