I purchased a trip through Expedia and also bought the 'Travel Protection - Package Protection Plan.' The cost was $162 on a ~$2,300 total trip for two. I needed to cancel the trip completely 5 days before it commenced. I called Expedia and they were able to immediately issue a refund for any non-refundable portion of the trip (which was the hotel for $1,250). The remaining cost was for two flights that, per JetBlue policy, would receive airline credits to use on future flights. The purpose of the cancellation was not relevant as the travel protection plan purchased allowed for one cancel-for-any-reason. It was however canceled for a medical reason, so I am attempting to file a claim to get the costs of the flights reimbursed or have JetBlue reimburse the flights given the circumstances. Overall, I was pleased with the travel protection policy and results of the refund, these terms were exactly stated in their terms issued before purchase. I was actually under the impression that the cancelling of the hotel would require a claim to be filed and deal with the insurance companies, but thankfully that was not the case and I at least got a majority of my cost back without any effort.
