If you lost your receipt, ask them very nicely to look up the transaction. For this to be possible you would need to know the items upc number, how much it cost, or around how much, and the total amount on the receipt ( maybe mention other remarkable items you purchased at the same time that are listed on the receipt as well), you also would need the date, time, which register, and the form of payment used. It is not so hard to locate a transaction if you know where to look. This may not work if you are 1) asking the entry level cashier- they are not capable to do this and might not even know it is possible to do so ignorantly or lazily they tell you "no" or they don't know what you are talking about. If they don't go get their manager themselves, you need to ask them to speak with their manager.this manager could be untrained as well and not capable or just lazy or they are not a high enough manager. You could be just talking to a head cashier, ask this "supervisor" to speak with their manager....or the store manager. If all of these fail, call Walmart customer service right then and there on their phone or your cell phone or go to another Walmart. If you don't want to waste time and trying your luck, you can always call customer service before you go to the store, explain your situation, and ask if you will be allowed to complete the return. Make sure you get the name of the person who spoke with you and make sure they will be working when you plan on bringing back the item to the store. Record the conversation. It couldn't hurt. You might need to inform the person you are recording the conversation or ask their permission depending on what state you live in. And any time you get told no they can't process your return because bc "x reason", ask for a copy of their return policy and make sure it is easily found somewhere obvious and accessible to all customers (like on the back of a receipt or posted on a sign at cash register or customer service). If it's not, argue that they cannot just make up their own stores return policy and say "if I'd had known I wouldn't have purchased this item.". If these all fail, try another store that sells the same thing.
