I was recently in the Marshall's on 416 E Main St Middletown, CT 06457 and had a horrible experience with a return. I was returning two children's jackets unworn with tags attached and I couldn't find my receipt. So the clerk was issuing me a store credit which is fine, but the associate next to her said to "be sure and remove the tax, if they have no receipt we don't refund the tax". I had never heard such a thing before and when I asked they said it was there policy. I rummaged through my purse and found the receipt after all and because it was past 30 days they again said they wouldn't refund the tax because it was past 30 days. At that time the manager or whom I assume was the manager was walking by and I asked where in their policy does it state that refunds would subtract the sales tax if the receipt was missing or past a certain time frame? She just kept repeating that it was their policy and again I asked where is it stated? I read the policy on the receipt, on their wall mounted policy behind the register and in the entry way and no where did it mention not refunding the state tax. She then said "it was a state law." which I then said was absolutely incorrect as I work in retail and there is no such law. I was so frustrated I took the store credit and left. Ridiculous.
