Read the comments and I am a Customer Service Manager at walmart. First off, will address the common one. Airbeds. This is a common sense policy. If the packaging is unopened and the airbed is not used, Walmart will take it back for a refund (within the allotted time). However, if you brought it home, slept on it for a few nights, or took it on a camping trip and decided after using it, you no longer want it, there is no wiggle room here. We can't logically resell something you have slept on. Here is a better question for you. Would you want to buy an airbed that has been opened and used, not knowing who slept on it last? An even exchange is the best that can be done. On the airbed return front, what happens if they were wearing something that gave you an allergic reaction or something else you don't want? The liability for this will fall on the manufacturer and Walmart. There is no way, upon return, to know what you have done with that airbed after you returned it. We can't say anything, so the policy is the policy. This is one of the few products you buy at Walmart that you are assuming the responsibility on. Be sure this is a product you intend to keep and if you should return it and it is defective, be prepared that you will only receive the same product back as an exchange. No level of store management will override this and no exceptions will be made. You can ride this up the corporate ladder all you like and more than likely, nothing will change on this front.

Baby formula and WIC. I read one review of the Walmart return policy of baby formula and WIC with general amusement. Sadly, I rarely get amused by someone who is upset on anything, but this is the one place where it happened. First off, this is a common thing where people are utilizing WIC (Women with Infants and Children), a state/federal program, that is strict on what you can get under the program. I am keenly aware of those that think that WIC or Walmart will not be smart enough to catch on to you trying to exchange one type of baby formula for another. Unfortunately, both are aware. WIC, upon return, won't authorize the exchange. It does not come down to whether Walmart will or not, it comes down to WIC. If you feel your baby needs a different product, it is recommended you see the pediatrician and then let the state agency you receive your WIC benefits from know what you can receive. Each state spells out exactly what you are eligible for.

That is a few that came to mind that I can immediately comment on or to. In parting, unfortunately people have abused the return policy at many of the big box stores. Before the policies get "better", they are going to get worse. From my estimates and what I see, there are policy updates or changes, once every 4 to 6 months (sometimes they happen literally overnight). Walmart and other major retailers look at trends on returns. Every return is coded in the system with a reason why for the return. In some cases, Walmart will change the return policy to reflect these trends. In some other cases, Walmart will stop selling products altogether and will rely on an independent, online 3rd party to sell the product and handle the return policy and procedure. All in all, the return policies are fairly liberal in most cases. For the stuff we refuse, I am sort of surprised by the stuff we will take back. Some of it we can not even resold even if we clearance the item.
