I went to Walmart in West Sacramento on Riverpoint Court and tried to return an item that my daughter originally had on layaway at the Delta Shores Walmart. I paid the layaway off on 12/2/18. My daughter moved to LA and forgot to take the item. Instead of packing it up and mailing it to her, I just re ordered it on Walmart.com for her. I don't have the receipt, my daughter has it, but it's pcked away. Anyhow when I tried to return the item I was informed Walmart's NEW RETURN POLICY is as follows: You can return items within 90 days with a receipt. If you don't have a receipt and your item is $25 or greater they will not exchange or refund or give you a Walmart credit in the form of a gift card as they have done in the past. You are stuck with the product. I was then informed if the item is less that $25 they will do an even exchange only. WTF! According to both store managers this policy took effect AUGUST 2018. When I asked why haven't they informed their customers, the reply was, "On our board in Customer Service we covered up the "without a receipt portion".

This is ridiculous. I expressed my concerns as to what is going to happen when customers try returning items they recived for CHRISTmas and was told the new policy would be enforced. I expressed this was a bunch of bull and I pray they have security because if Im upset about not being able to return a $40 item. Imagine how all the customers are going to feel. Luckily for me, the manager at Delta Shores Walmart said she can retrieve my daughter's layaway infoe and I will be able to return this item since the layaway was paid out with my debit card. But, what about all of you that won't have a receipt or the option of receiving the purchase details.

The Walmart online policy does not reflect what the managers told me. From this day forward, I will not be purchasing any gifts that may potentially have to be returned to Walmart. This new policy sucks. But , what's worse is we the consumers were NEVER notified of the change. And, it's not like they offer or give gift receipts.
