Troubleshoot first

In case of a technical problem with a product or service customer service is available to help. Before going through the return process, see if there are other ways to help fix the problem. Contact Xbox online or at 1-800-MICROSOFT for assistance.

Return policies

Returns for most items will be honored within 30 days of purchase. Some items such as Xbox 360 games are not eligible for full refund, however in case of manufacturer defects or shipping errors, product will be exchanged for the same item or the corrected item. Downloadable items are eligible for the same 30-day return policy.

How to complete a return/exchange

Preorders can be cancelled at any time prior to the release of the product by calling 1-877-MY-MSSTORE. Subscription services can be cancelled the same way. For all other returns call the above number to request return shipping labels and initiate the process. After completing a return you can check the status by calling 1-877-MY-MS-STORE.

I bought black ops 2 to have a little fun on an old game I used to play. If I'd have known there were the amount of modders, I would not have purchased the game. I really want a refund due to the game being completely ruined by people that require the use of mods to be any good.

Xbox are crooks. I tried to order 2000+400 bonus atoms for the game "Fallout 76". I went to the Xbox store and there was a sale. 2000+400 bonus atoms for $17.49. I clicked on the order button, and got "Oops, something went wrong. We cannot process your order at this time. Please try again later. Error: udtwmiccyjbuh+v/kvjhkn". Tried again later and got the same error. Tried a few more times then gave up. Checked my bank account, and I was charged $125!!! Microsoft refuses to refund the money, even though I provided them with the error code. Called my bank immediately, but Microcrook had already taken my money. I'm almost 60 and in a wheelchair and I mainly play video games to make my day happy. I have $30 each month from my disability to spend on entertainment. Microsoft refuses to refund the money they said could not be taken due to error udtwmiccyjbuh+v/kvjhkn. So, there goes a bunch of my rent for my room and wheelchair. If I can't come up with the stolen money by rent day, I'm homeless. Thanks, MICROCROOK!

Worst customer service ever!! Definitely do not recommend anyone getting an Xbox. They've been happy to receive monthly payments of 6.99 a month for 5 months whilst we had bought a Xbox live gold for a year but will only refund the one month!! Erin the 'manager' was an absolute joke who couldn't be bothered to try to even help with this issue and ' renx' Couldn't even be bothered to return a call!!

The Game Outward has soo many bugs that it completely ruins the game, happened to try coop with my wife and upon loading, all my skills were gone, a couple hundred hours of intense grinding to get gear and currency totally gone,i was left naked like of everything. Your starting character actually starts with beginner skills and those were even removed. Microsoft has their name on this game, they need to reach out to the developers Ninedots and demand they release a patch that fixes unbelievable garnage bugs like that. This is false advertising by the company. This in legal terms would be like an automobile lemon law.

It seems a good few of you are saying that your kids used your card for several months, and you have tried to erase the card number for the Xbox but it keeps charging. Well I don't feel sorry for you, an easy fix is call the card issuer close that card and issue a new one with a new number. I get it kids can be sneaky but seriously who is the kid? My 3 year old grandson woke up before my son and charged over $100 dollars about week after my son removed all the cards because he was afraid it would happen. But my daughter in law didn't realize it and added her card back in. Live and learn.

My fiasnce and I are going through this right now!, Report all charges to your card company. The law states that an unauthorized purchase is an unauthorized purchase. We also took the xbox away from the kid for good. He knew what he was doing. A large screen with a big yes to purchase button pops up....very well knowing he didnt have any money or card of his own, he spent ours anyways, and your alls as I can assume. Next about the support thing... I got on to the virtual customer service, keep asking for a live rep on the robot call, eventually a box will pop up and say "live representative" click on it and Wait. I got a message back from Freddy D at x box. I told him to call me at my office, and that I was pissed. He called me and confirmed it was my step kid. I hope this helps, I want to know what you all did as punishment to your kids for doing this ? Any advice helps.....Mad in Missouri!

Microsoft is getting rich from parent's mistakes and lack of tech knowledge. My son has placed so many unauthorized charges on my accounts that I've lost count. You can't actually talk to a customer service representative, you have to go through an online chat. These reps mean well, but are very limited in what they can do. Of course, the refund "deciders" are not available to speak to you. I had put a pass key on my son's Xbox. I didn't find out until >$400 later that his system had been set up as an "adult" system so, therefore, all he had to do was turn off the pass key requirement and bang, hundreds of dollars worth of charges. I explained that we couldn't afford to lose that kind of money and as far as I am concerned their security options are ineffective. I am furious with this company and they have THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I've ever seen. I have asked repeatedly by email that someone call or email me to discuss this rip off, but I have heard nothing. They are getting rich off the backs of hardworking parents who want to make their kids happy but who aren't tech savvy. All these purchases are for "virtual" merchandise and they would lose very little by fairly refunding at least the largest purchases. I even threatened to contact an attorney, but that got no response either. Horrible company!!

Xbox company should get horrible reviews, very greedy people, my grandson somehow was able to spend $315 on skins? And we did not allow him to use them.... Tried to get account refunded, zero satisfaction so the Xbox is being sold and we will go with play station if anything at all... We placed parental control but it's our fault any credit card info was ever used so a lesson learned about us and about the Xbox people. If you can't trust the control settings then that's sad and bad... We hope others can learn from our mistakes and I personally wish Xbox would self destruct it's success thru poor customer satisfaction experiences.... We probably spend $500- $1,000 per year on games and legit purchases. But that number goes to zero from us now.

I agree with the top person who left a comment lyingredients about stolen cards won't cut it and is moronish. What happened to me was my very clever 9yr old logged his profile onto his older brothers console wich didn't have same parental settings then made a vast amount of purchases then went back to his console to use the purchased content. So if you have multiple consoles be aware only the one you set the pin or password on is secure from these purchases. Microsoft are unforgiving as it is preventable if you are vigilant or learn the hard way as I have. Thanks.

My son snuck my debit information for his x box account he drained my bank account. I am not very Tec savy but I am going to take the tv and x box away forever. I asked him to write me a letter as to the details what ever he wanted to write. I was looking for acts and passwords etc to figure it out but this is what he wrote. First I took your bank card from your room. I put it on the Xbox one I did this about the ending of last month. I used most of the money on rbucks and some on games I think I stole some were aground 5k maybe more. I felt bad at some points, but the urge was so strong I couldn't stop it was like a drug and most of the time it felt good. I feel like I should Die or live in prison for my life or be torchered evenhomeless whatI did needs to stop. I need the worst punishment possible. I want to go to jail today and sometime in my life pay you 10 times as much as I stoled. If itit doesn't stop I hope I go to Hell.......as a mother I don't want my son to feel this way I don't believe in Hell I don't want to arrest him or start a police report and ruin his Liife or chance of getting into a good college. He shouldn't feel this way. games shouldn't be so tempting. And there should be controls set up to limit sales and solicitation of upgrades or skins electronic clothes. a child should be able to play a game without needing to spend $ 5 to $1000. There should be a control to never let a debit card to be linked or for money to not be taken out. It's to easy for are tec saves children to set up accounts and steal there parents money without us realizing. I am one of those parents that don't play games and doesn't want to have a bank account set wit a game. Microsoft is utterly indeed criminal. There is no easy way to get through to them.

First I want a refund on kotor 2 . I bought for $10 and it's unplayable!! At least twice I put 8 or more hour in this game save it then go to get back on next day or two and nothing I did the last day saved !! That's like 16 hours of game play lost !! The game is unplayable don't want to go do 16 hours of the same stuff again .. that I just did ..and I'm sure never gonna try and play it again cause I don't wanna waste my time .. if game is not gonna save .. not to mention all the times it freezes !!

Also im probably gonna take my Xbox one x back .. I have loved Xbox since original console.. it made me give up on PlayStation cause it was a better system same as 360 .. and I had Xbox one when it first came out . Never had problems with it !! But since I upgraded nothing but trouble !! I'm always getting kicked of internet and it's not my internet !! Cause my phone , tv, iPad , and everything else works fine all the time !! It's just the x box one x .. my son still has a regular x box one and it works fine also .. I get on with support and they tell me I need to hard shut it down . But why ?? Never had to hard shut down my other x box one !!! I come home from long day of work it takes me 10 minutes to turn on Xbox find out I'm not connected. Then I have to hard shut down system wait for it to turn back on .. pain ... and yes I tried network check .. it says I'm connected to internet but not to Xbox live .. nothing will work until I unplug Xbox and plug it back in ..

Most complaints here are simple fixes,
First, I'm sorry but turn-off auto renew (it will tell you your next charge date if you haven't turned it off)

Second, a mom said her baby accidently made a purchase, LIAR!, your screen would have to be right on the buy button (it's a couple of clicks to even get to the buy button)

Third, parents when in doubt pay for the subscription (3 months or 6 months in advance rather than one month at a time this way you can remove your credit details immediately after purchase)

PUT PASSWORD ON !! I have password for every transaction on the xbox, or account changes.

Lastly, check your xbox settings AND COMPTUER (xbox site, ya for some reason it doesn't turn off on both)

NOTE: WHY AS PARENTS ARE YOU EVEN LETTING YOUR KIDS PLAY ONLINE! heck I couldn't even play m rated game until I literally turned 18! Parents, adults take responsibility and learn what your buying for you kids, and understand that they do state refund policy, and digital game refund policy, (THEIR CORPORATION, THE DETAILS ARE IS SMALL WRITING HIDDEN NOTHING NEW!!)

I was charged 2x for madden football download. Also my 5 year old kid was playing minecraft and somehow was allowed to rack up multiple charges of around $200. I tried to fix issue online, there was no way to get a refund, so I called, sat on hold for 45 min, finally spoke to someone in bangalore, once I told him the charges were made by a child who was not old enough to consent he asked me to stay on hold. About 1/2 hour later he hung up on me. I now am forced to cancel my credit card and report it as unauthorized charges.

Son made 70 dollar purchase 4 times in a row without my consent for coins for a game he has on the Xbox. The credit card was removed previously to avoid this from happening but did not know that when you log in from a different device to purchase something from the Xbox store the system automatically pulls your credit card info and stores it to the device. Called the help desk and they basically said "no" the policy is they only give one refund a year. So now my family is out over 200 dollars for some coins on a video game.

I had just purchased my first Xbox. I had never had a game console before, so I asked the employees, to confirm that my Xbox, which was labeled it could run 360 games, if it could for sure. They all said yes, so I bought the modern-warfare trilogy, and the black ops set. When I arrived homw, I tested them, and only black ops worked. I went back to the store(Walmart) and asked if I could return them. I was told I could not, and when I asked for an exchange, I was denied. I am very disappointed in my purchase, and would like to trade all my purchased games in for Xbox one games, but I was told I could not, after I had opened the games and broken the seal, I had violated the packaging laws. I hope that I can do something about this.

I bought my son gold well its so hard to get the auto renewal off and i tried and tried and tried to get it off... was making me mad... well couple of days saw my bank account $85 gone. this is oct. 18 So I chatted with a guy and said i will get a refund back 24-72 hrs. Well i havent received anything in my bank. So I chatted with a girl she said it got refunded. i said not into my bank. She said on your microsoft account it says refunded. It does say that. She said sorry the guy didnt provide you with the right information. On the microsoft account is 24-72 hours but the bank is going take 1 or 2 billing cycles. So im guessing 1 or 2 months.. They can take the money faster than u can blink but cant refund it as quick. Im still waiting to get it back. I know its my fault but make it easier to get your card off from auto renewal and the guy told me i can setup the xbox so kids cant buy anything. i didnt know that at the time.

I have experienced a very poor service as well. I recently discovered that again, for the third time, that I was being charged 9.99 a month for the xbox music pass. I called again and was told the same exact thing as everybody else here. They do not give refunds past 30 days. The guy was tolerable at least. I tried to explain that every year I have to deal with randomly being signed up for the damn music pass. Its such an obscure amount of money that it usually goes unnoticed for a cpl months at least. Its basically like Microsoft comes in and steals the money from your account without telling you and then refuses to reimburse you. Im going to cancel immediately and move to playstation. This is ridiculous.

I've just found out I've been paying for Xbox live for three years. I don't have paper banking and because it was such a small amount of £6.99 PM I honestly didn't notice. The only reason I raised the query with my bank was because I was recieving emails from Microsoft saying they'd billed my account, I never had a Microsoft account so I believed it was just scammer emails.
Once I found a number to get through to Xbox I told them my case and they were completely unsympathetic. I've been paying for a service I never use, there must be some way that Xbox can see if an account is active, if we turn on our Xbox there is a pop up that says you are not signed in to Xbox live.. We didn't know we had it! We use our Xbox as a DVD player we didn't even know the gamer tag! Xbox said they would refund me three months of payments, three months! Out of three years!
I want to take this further but don't know who to go to about it, I'm disgusted with this company.

I Just found out Xbox has been debiting my account $9.99 Plus tax for the past 19 months. For some sort of music subscription that I did not sign up for. I understand it is ones responsibility to check their bank statements for any fraudulent charges but didn't really notice because such a small amount was taken out And flew under my radar. so I called xbox / Microsoft various numbers spoke to various supervisors who were policy rude an uncooperative to empathize with my situation. They even went back to see if I was telling a story and using this account but went back and saw it has never been used at all so when I ask them for some sort of refund even a portion understanding that I am a little responsible to check my statements because one should be aware. Unfortunately they gave me the runaround and was no help tO ME.

We have been battling this company for weeks now trying to get our money back from two (identical) charges for a game that we never ordered or want. My teenager did not buy this LEGO game - he is way too old for it! X-box customer service says they believe us, and we have changed our passwords, etc in case it is a security breach, however, we still have not seen the over $80 back in our account, and the 3rd customer service agent (that we finally got on the phone - getting ahold of someone at that company is an even bigger joke than mysterious charges on our account!) said that it can take up to 2 weeks for the refund to be processed. They are MICROSOFT, for goodness sake!! I could have gotten my money back faster from Joe's mom-and-pop-shop down the street. We are still waiting....13 days later.

I used my real credit card info to purchase (1) game for my son and then within a few days I saw a purchase for 2 movies and 6000 points charged to ... card ($81.18) I had to go online to dispute these charges and the support person we talked two (several different people over the course of a few days) could not find the purchases on our system but refused to refund the money saying our IP ...

The way they got the payment account reactivated was by flashing a message to my son once the xbox was turned on that stated in order to ...he clicked OK so he could play the game. Online help would not refund money. I even went to a supervisor who was kind of rude. He stated quotes from their policies then said I need to watch son closer and abruptly closed the chat ...I encourage others to file a complaint too with the BBB. The worst warranty service I have ever had to deal with. First they won't send out a replacement unit without returning... give a credit card in case I failed to send the unit in. Customers have to pay for the shipping of the returned item...6/21/12 that that it is being sent and will take 7 to 10 days. As big as that company is it should have the very best... returned within 10 days. 2- once the claim is filed have the replacement ready to go once ...

I sent back my nephew XBOX because the console wasnt working. Your representative attempted to trouble .... She stated the console and the power source cord needed to be returned to the company. On 6/12/12 I receieved an email stating the equipment ... console we can expect the power source cord 7 to 10 business days afterward. Why? If the power source cord isnt needed ... is the console without the power cord? If this is your policy it doesnt make any sense. Its down right idiotic!

Customer needs to explicitly add the product again and buy it. The xbox.com has unethical and deceptive practice. It...is tricking people into getting multiple charges and no option to cancel or refund of the money.
