Michaels Returns and Refunds

Please find details regarding the return and refund policies for Michaels below. We encourage you to leave a comment regarding your experience requesting a return or refund from Michaels so others can benefit from what you learned.

Michaels Return Policy

Michaels accepts returns from customers who possess valid photo identification cards. All return activity is tracked by the company, and Michaels often limits the number of returns and exchanges one customer may utilize. Customers may return items that are unused and in their original packaging if they have a receipt. The purchase may not have been made more than two months prior to the exchange or return. Upon accepting the return, Michaels will credit the original method of payment with the refund amount.

If the customer does not have a valid receipt, Michaels will give the customer a refund at the lowest price of the item within the last three months. When it comes to items that have been opened, electronic items are returnable if they are still in new condition.

There are some items that Michaels does not accept in returns, including gift cards and items that have been used. Seasonal items and custom floral arrangements are not refunded without a receipt.

I tried to return 2 items with no receipt and I was refused a return, claiming I needed a receipt. I asked for the manager who told me the same thing and said I needed to find my receipt or keep the items. She told me this was a new policy yet it states clearly right about her head all returns accepted I left rather as I felt I was getting too upset. Michaels is going down hill rapidly and is now being bought out. What will become of it now and all the gift cards everyone has???

I agree with everyone on here. Dont buy from Michael's. You only have 5-15 minutes to cancel an order even if you didn't do it. And then when you inquire about when the order should be shipped out after the label was made over a day ago they keep repeating themselves of its 1-3 days for processing and 4-6 days for it to be delivered to you. I told them it had been 3 business days since I ordered it and they then wanted my order number (which why they didn't ask for this to begin with is beyond me) and then still come back with it will ship out soon. Soon could be days from now I need you to know whether or not it's shipping today or tomorrow. It's pointless to even deal with customer service. They all
Have their heads in their hind ends over there and think a justified answer is it will ship out soon or giving you the same details about their processing and shipping procedure. Then moving onto asking whether or not you needed help with anything else as to get you off the subject your on. Praying this ships out today and all goes smoothly from here and I won't ever order anything from them again.

Terrible service! They would not do a refund and I had a receipt and it was purchased within 8 hours only. They kept telling me to refuse the package when it arrives to my place...like what?! Who does that kind of service...yes, only Michael's!
And really, it should be refunded if you call right away BEFORE it even gets shipped. My reasons that I couldn't cancel it earlier was because this purchase was made in the evening. Unfortunately, I pressed one item by mistake on shipping and the rest was done by curb pickup. When I realized that I didn't select curb pick up on that one item ...it was to late they said and would not help me. My tracking number was showing that it wasn't even being in process of getting picked...how is it to late. They completely refused to cancel it. I got charged more on it because they did not include sale price and extra cost for shipping. I am so mad!!!!
They do not know how to run online business. I have worked with Amazon and other retailers in the past....and Michael's is very inexperienced when it comes to online service. Poor customer service as well! When you call there, they have no idea what to do or say...they will constantly put you on hold and nothing gets done. It's like they never know what to do and need to check. Very poorly trained people. Please save your money and if you need to order on line SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE. I'll be calling better business bureau as well.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ON LINE FROM THEM because if you ever need to exchange or refund it will be impossible!!!

I placed an order online for Halloween items. When I open the box that was delivered, there was only one item that I didn't even ordered and it had a slip showing multiple items were delivered. I called customer service and I was told they could send me a replacement however it would take up 9 days. I opted for getting a refund since it would take too long. I received part of my refund and I'm still emailing customer service for the remaining refund. I have never had so many problems with a delivery.

I'm very unhappy about the two 1 qt bottles of Artist's Loft Flow Acrylic white I bought. The consistency is chunky and ruined my painting. According to the site opened items cannot be returned. I tried to use the chat feature for some sort of satisfaction on this but there is none to be had. I have to eat the cost of the opened item and buy from my local art store. Chain stores are the worst.

Seriously, how do I know an item is defective before opening it? I can't. So now I've wasted money, supplies, other paints and a canvas on a lumpy chunky painting I can't use or sell.

I can't get a refund for opened products even if they were defective? Okay, Michaels, we're breaking up.

Also, bonus, if you can't find your receipt and you bought in person they cannot find your receipt using your Michaels card so you will only get a refund based on the lowest price they sold the item at for the past 3 months. THREE MONTHS? So that means you get sale price refund even if you paid full price. Their policy sucks. So does their customer service. Thanks John M. You didn't help at all.

Posted by Don't Buy Michaels with PayPal!!

NEVER USE PAYPAL TO BUY ONLINE FROM MICHAELS!!!!

I placed a $42 online order with Michaels for store pickup using PayPal. Big mistake! They authorized the charge for $42 (locking in that amount on my card) then CANCELLED THE ORDER because even though the website said that location had the thing I ordered, they didn't. We had to call around to three more stores before we found one that actually in stock what the website said they had. So we placed the order, paid for it, picked it up. Only the original authorization amount is still blocked on my PayPal account. Now get this - Michaels says it can take "up to 30 days" for this pending authorization to be removed, and if you have any questions, "see your debit card provider." What a ridiculous way to do business. Never again!

Micheals is a scam on returns. Bought a Cricut explore air 2 one day later the machine does not work a red light appears abd can not connect to Bluetooth basically its stuck. Tried to return it , now til me because I opened it I cannot return not exchange it. I told her where does it state that it wasn't in the receipt , I was not told that by the cashier when I purchase it, she said it's their policy . I said I'm not upset about the policy I'm upset that I was aware I am not able to get a refund a customer should be explained that certain items cannot be returned. Have it posted next to the items or have the cashier let you know . That way the customer is aware of it abd it's up to the customer to either buy it or not. I was on fire but still respectful either way I will never shop at Micheals again. If they keep this up they will go out if business abd well deserved in my opinion. Bad business practices

Hi I recently purchase a circuit explore air 2 from you guy. Within the same night bout 40 mins later it said my order was cancelled with no explanation. Now I'm looking for my refund. That's was a $200 plus order I need that money back immediately. The email never said my money would be refunded to me! How long & when will my money be refunded to my account?

I bought from Michaels on Saturday before they closed and went back Sunday for an exchange and told NO exchanges at this time either with no answer as to when. Target restarted theirs...what's up Michael'a, as much as you'd like our money so would we.

Posted by Anonymous

The same happened to me!! You can't make any returns at Michaels!! The reason given to me is that our Governor isn't allowing returns. That's a bunch of crap, other stores are taking returns!!!

My son in Fort Collins Co bought a $100 frame. It was the wrong size so he went back to return it.
They told him they are not doing any returns now. Said it would be 6 months before he can get a refund!
What?!

Went online and bought multiple storage boxes, I ordered less than I needed seeing as they only had 6.

It was a Buy Online Pickup In store order. After placing the order, I literally got charged the whole thing which I found weird seeing as in their FAQ it says this: Charges are applied once you receive your ready for pick up notification email. If you haven't picked up your order after 5 days, your items will be returned to store inventory and you will have to place a new order

I never received a pickup email. In fact, minutes later I received an email saying my order was canceled with no explanation why.

Called customer service the next day and the guy literally couldn't even tell me why I got charged or why my order was cancelled but he said it was probably because I ordered too many things... Why are you selling stuff online if you don't have enough in warehouse?!

They said my money would be back in 3-5 business days. It's been 10 days and still no sign of my $90 dollars.

I'm never again purchasing from Michaels again. Never have I experienced such a lack of professionalism.

This policy is ridiculous. I got some shirts from my nephews for Christmas. All I wanted to do was exchange them for different colors and they would not let me. They said that I would have to return them and then purchase what I wanted. What a scam! They would give me the lowest price they sold for recently and then I would have to pay full price for the shirts.

My husband bought me a Cricut for Christmas. I was so happy, until I went to use it. We are on Hughes internet and it is SO SLOW, The cricut would not stay connected to finish projects. Since he ordered it on line I looked at the receipt that was in the box it clearly states:
" IF YOU are not completely satisfied with an item, we will gladly offer you a refund within 180 days of purchase Michaels. com gives you the option of returning the item at your nearest Michaels location or back to our warehouse, All warehouse returns require a Return Authorization, which can be obtained through our Customer Care. If you have any questions or need a Return Authorization, please call Michaels Customers Care At---- --- ----" DOES ANY ONE SEE ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEING UNOPENED? what about cricut being excluded?
I read that before I even tried the machine just cuz I was worried it would not work with our internet. . I felt sure there would be no issues returning it if I opened and tried it. WOW was I wrong. The store manager told me that since it was opened they could not return it. And if it were broken then I needed to call Cricut. By the way I did twice and they never answered.
WHAT???? WHERE DID THIS COME FROM. She told me that it was their policy. HMMM what is the one that was in the package? It Said nothing about no returns of opened, it said nothing about Cricut being excluded. I demanded that she contact a district manager. When she did the district manager said the store manager needed to call Cricut not me. She was huffy about having to do that and went to a back room. 5 minutes later she came out saying that SHE was going to do us a favor and return it. This came with a lecture on checking on line and u tube before we bought it to see if others had problems like ours. SHUT UP! I don not need your advise. From reading other post it seems that the stores have a return policy that depends on the mood of the manager.

BEWARE of online ordering to Michaels. WHAT a Scam they have going. I ordered a nativity set and you usually get an email receipt instantly. After an hour went by I decided I didn't need after all When I called to cancel and they refused because you have to call back within an hour of ordering. How do you cancel when you don't have your order number for an hour after order was placed. WHAT A SCAM they have going. Shame on you Michaels. There is no way that order was pulled and ready to go.

I bought a pre-lit tree from Michael's and when we put it up at home the middle section wouldn't light up. We went to return it and was told we can't return the tree if the box had been opened. They said there are instructions inside the box with info on how to return the tree to the manufacturer. What kind of customer service is that?! We were eventually able to return it but not without a lot of grief! Policy stinks!

A simple online order turned into a nightmare.
From the start of my online order things went wrong.
I placed an order for two Christmas trees . I made the mistake of choosing to have them delivered .
After placing the order I never received an email or text from Michaels confirming the purchase.
I did instantly receive a letter from Paypal who I used to pay for the trees that they received notice of the payment.
After 5 days I first called but the phone Lines where closed, so I wrote to customer service online to ask where my order was? I received an email they got my letter and will get back to me.
Two days later I got a notice the trees were on there way & if I ordered more then one item they may be delivered separately. At this time I still never heard back from CS. Now I got billed for both trees from Paypal.
Two days after that ...One of the two trees were delivered.
Then 2 days after that I finally got an e mail from customer service now this was 6 days after I wrote to them . The email stated one tree of the two was delivered Duh I knew that and they did not know the status of my second tree. Huh? I Waited 6 days for this letter!
It was now 11 days since I placed the order . Normal Time frame was suppose to be... items get sent out in 2-3 days. NOT.
So I was done with this experience . I called to make two simple request...one to cancel the second tree and two to get a receipt to take the one back I got in.
That phone call turned into a 50 minute ordeal.
The girl told me we have no info on tree two I said that's way I want to cancel it.Then she said she couldn't cancel it or give me a receipt to take back the tree I got in.
And told me...maybe I could use my paypal receipt to take the one tree back. HUH?
After 15 min. Of getting no where with her trying to figure things out....
I asked for a manager to talk to but she kept me on the line Yet another 15 min trying to figure things out yet. I again asked for a manager. 35 min later I got a manager and in 10 minutes I got a refund for the tree that never arrived and a receipt to take the one back I did get in.
I asked why it took 50 minutes to get such a simple request taken care of. I was told by the manager oh she was new and didn't know.

So After 15 minutes of getting no were with this "new" agent ...what I should of done was hung up and called again to get another person to help me.

Never will I place an order with Michaels again for delivery.
It was a really bad Bah humbug experience.
Michaels please train your agents better and or tell them to listen to your customer when they ask to speak to a manager. A store is only as good as the people that work for them.

My husband bought a Cricut on sale for $227.00 about two weeks ago. Now, the same machine is on sale for $199.99. Does he get the difference. I know some stores do this as long as you have the receipt.

I purchased a load of items from Fall clearance online. My store didn't carry most of the items so I had no idea what they would look like in person but I took the chance anyway as I could return to the store as long as I had my receipt. Some items arrived missing pieces and some were just not what I thought so I brought those items back to the store along with my receipt and credit card used. The bar code on my receipt wasn't being taken by the store register so the manager was called to advise and help. It was finally decided to return as No Receipt and I was advised that I could only receive store credit. I asked why as my receipt showed how I purchased and I had the card. Manager advised me she was doing me a favor and that she could be giving me pennies on dollar as fall items were now 90% off. I pointed out that I had a receipt proving what I paid but she brushed me off saying Michael's fine print says all returns on seasonal items can only get store credit. I told her this policy was never told to me and I wouldn't have taken a chance on items that have a limited return policy. She advised that the policy was there and I said I would look at it later. I just did and policy says 90 days WITH RECEIPT. Looks like Michael's is trying not to give credits or cash refunds but gift cards so the money doesn't leave the store. This is unfortunate as I'm an impulse buyer who usually keeps everything but now I will curtail that at Michael's.

I bought a Michael's gift card for my daughter who lives in Vermont thinking she could use it there (I live in Belleville Ontario)

My daughter would like to use it on an on-line purchase.(she has little time to go to Burlington ) I understand that Michaels is also in Vermont( she lives near Burlington )
Can she do this ?

The cashiers in Belleville think she cannot do this
They say I cannot be refunded this money( gift certificate)
thanks

Purchased my daughter some baking items, she's starting to decorate and design pastrie items. She forgot receipt at home, they refused the return. All she wanted to do was exchange for other baking items. It was 3 items total and I am a rewards member there and always use my telephone number when making purchases. She was told that the items were not found by number also, I took the items back w/o receipt w/no problem and they were fond w/number. Hmmm I wonder how this was possible or was it because it was my 17yr old african american daughter that intially tried.

It's been a month trying to return some material I bought on-line. Called several times! They kept saying they'll send to my email. Never happened! Don't waste your time on order on-line with Michael's.

Why do you except returns without a receipt you loose a lot of money doing this they buy on a coupon and return it without a receipt weeks later and you pay them full price back as you can't track how much they paid for it bring out some sort of card like saeway or Costco then track the purchusethen receipt would not mnatter

Went to return 3 books for drawing, binder tabs and notebook. These were extra school supplies that where not needed Unfortunately, receipt lost and husband bought. Brought items to Michaels, the manager said she would take the 3 books back and that is all as the maximum allowed without a receipt is 30.00 dollars. With her stating that I assumed that the books were around 7.00 to 8.50 each. What I got credited was 13.03. Why not take anything else back? We were not close to the 30.00 dollars. Plus I can not find this policy anywhere. I believe it was just made up on the spot, not listed on website or store or any blogs anywhere. Shame on your store for doing this.

I had one of the best customer service experiences today. I had ordered some yarn, Yarnspirations Pantone, however after finding out what a pain in the tush it was to undo and then winding the yarn up ((seriously, who has time for that?), so I needed to return. Oh No..... I had already shredded the return lables and only had my email confirmation. I called the 800# and spoke to the sweetest lady (her name was Naja, I hope thats close) she explained that she would have to transfer me to a different person. It must be my lucky day, I was introduced and spoke to Josh. Honest to God, he made everything so easy for me. Due to foot surgery I am unable to drive, so he is sending me new mailing lables. I knom what a call center work environment is like but Naja and Josh were OUTSTANDING Thank You

A couple of weeks ago I bought 6 shirts at Michael's in Pensacola, FL. I originally wanted an orange one and a blue one, but they didn't have it. After looking online I saw that they had them at the Pace store. I took two of the shirts that I purchased and went to exchange them for the two that I wanted. (All the same shirts but different colors) The cashier said she had to do a refund first and then sell me the new shirts. She gave me cash for my original shirts and rang up the new ones. Now the problem with this is when I bought the original shirts they were on sale. They aren't on sale this week I ended up having to pay the regular price for the same shirts which was double what I paid for them. I was very tempted to leave them there, but I needed them for the next day. This is a horrible policy. What if I didn't have the money to pay the difference? I have never experienced this type of policy anywhere else.

I bought two photo frames from Michaels in Ancaster, Ontario last week. One frame had a metal strap attached for hanging and it broke as soon as I lifted the frame up. The other frame was the wrong size. I went back to the store the next day to swop my items. I was told I could not do an exchange and needed to return the items and then re-purchase. At first I couldn't find my receipt and the cashier told me without a receipt they would take 20% off the price I had paid. I was unaware that a policy like this exsisted. I then found my receipt so she gave me a refund on my frames. At first I thought she was just going to exchange them but she gave me a refund instead. I asked her to get the frames for me and she refused. I went back to the frame section and found the frames I wanted. I went back to the same cashier and I gave her a $100 bill. She told me a Manager had to check the note before she could accept it. I waited ten minutes. She checked the bank note and then I was told that they did not have change for the $100 bill and that people don't pay with bills anymore. I ended up paying by debit card. I would not shop there again. Terrible service and I'm sure it's not legal to do the 20% deduction without a receipt.

Michael's stores need to update their return policy. No where on receipt or website does it say anything about not returning Cricut items. So disappointed, tried returning an Easy Press and was denied even though it looked to be going through. The response was the company does not allow returns. It should be stated somewhere this is the case!!! Michael's stores just lost a huge customer for sure.

Purchased 3 small spools of 1/8 inch ribbon last week. Found the same products cheaper at WalMart. Tried to return the ribbons to Michaels yesterday. When the original cashier rang them up, she rang up one spool twice instead of ringing three separately, so the cashier (very young girl) told me I couldn't return one because it was not on the receipt. Three identical spools, obviously the same product, but three different colors. I said that couldn't be, I bought them all at the same time. She insisted, and said maybe the original cashier didn't ring that item. WHAT? So I stole that ribbon? I was angry. She kept insisting that she couldn't take that item back. Now I read online that Michaels WILL accept returns without a receipt for the lowest price in the past 3 months. Some money will be better than nothing. But this young snippy cashier didn't offer me a return without the receipt. As other posters have said, good-bye Michaels. Hobby Lobby and JoAnns are much better stores, anyway.

I live in salt lake city utahand my son received some painting products for his 9th birthday, he is autistic and I didn't think it was the right gift. Anyways I talked to the parent who had brought the gift and she informed me it was from michaels. Without a receipt I went to return the items. The cashier asked me for the buyers card number phone number etc and I didn't know them she called the manager over and they informed me they would not return nor let me exchange the items claiming the items could have been bought anywhere. I feel this was unfair and not right. I saw the exact items in that store and as a gift I feel I shouldn't have to know the buyers account info. Now I am stuck with items not suitable for my special boy and he is out a chance to have something he could have enjoyed. I am very displeased with michaels which happened to be my favorite store for all my crafts scrapbook in and church activities.

Hi Team,

The strangest thing happened to me while doing a return.
I purchase at Michaels at least once a week. I am a crafter and spend about $175-$300 at Michael's monthly on my charge.
I received a basket of things from Michael's as a gift from a few friends for my birthday. Some were duplicates so I went to exchange a couple of the items. After they entered my license it stopped the exchange saying I am not allowed to return without a receipt as I reached my return limit. I had only returned 2 other times within a year with no receipt as I had misplaced the receipt. Those 2 returns totaled $62.78. Today's exchange was for $17.00 and I was told I reached my return limit when I have credit card bills totaling $2,427 in a year of purchases at Michaels. When the sales person called the manager, she came out and humiliated me in front of a line full of customers telling me I've returned too much and they won't let me return anymore.
The management is unprofessional and the company apparently is not concerned about keeping customers. There are other places to shop who are competitive and will match prices. Goodbye Michaels. For returning a total of $75 in one year you lost a customer who spent over $2400 per year!!

I'm an art teacher and purchase at all craft stores, Joann, Hobby Lobby and of course, Michaels continually. Michaels has the rudest management in East Hanover NJ! Young and old management with no respect for their customers. After years of going there, yesterday was the end. I needed assistance from management, got young female manager and she had an attitude!! I'm done there!!

I am super frustrated right now! I bought a leather bracelet band with a charm that clips to it. When I went to put the charm on, the clip broke in two. I went into the store to simply exchange it and they said since I had no receipt that they could not exchange it. I was not asking for my money back, I simply wanted to exchange it so I can wear it. Not only did the associate not know the policy and had to wait to call a manager, when she finally did hear from the manager as I was probably 20 feet away she shouted out in front of multiple customers hey ma'am, unfortunately we don't take returns or exchanges without a receipt. I come in to Michaels At least twice a month with my niece who I babysit once a week to do crafts and fun time with her. Looks like I will be finding a different craft store from here on out.

Bought several items online for in-store pickup. I decided to return some of them when I saw them in real life, but every item rang up at a different (lower) price than what I paid for them. I had to show the manager my original receipt (thank god I took a screenshot -- they do NOT email you order details or prices you paid when you buy online for in-store pickup!!).

She couldn't cancel the last receipt, so I had to re-buy everything at the incorrect price, then re-return everything at the prices I paid for them. It took OVER AN HOUR with register issues and questions the manager had about the original prices I paid.

I'd shop here again, but I will NEVER buy for in-store pickup again.

Posted by Triiiip1215

Never shopping here again ! Paid for 2 brushes and a tube of paint. They told me my paint cost to much so they won't exchange it or give store credit . Because I bought quality products they won't exchange them out for me ??? Absolutely makes no sense I will never shop here again. Managers need a attitude check that's for sure. Accuse loyal customers of stealing because the product cost to much ? Your company needs to rethink how the treat people. They talk all high and mighty behind that counter. Don't waste ur time here , go to Joann's .

My Mom just wanted to exchange a defected brush she bought that day. The cashier said, "No you paid with a check. You have to wait 10 days." My Mom explained again, I don't want a refund, just exchange the defected brush.
The manager was called and had to escort her to look at another brush-which they didn't have. Long story short, she bought another brush for more money.
Not good at customer service.

I returned a rotary cutter that was defective. I had a receipt, but no original packaging. If you read through Michael's complete return policy, original packaging is not required for in store purchases. At any rate, I didn't appreciate the condescending and accusatory tone when they questioned me about my return. I did receive partial store credit, but the experience was unpleasant, to say the least. If this is how they treat customers, I may have to shop at a different retail store.

I returned an item received for Christmas with a gift receipt. Instead of getting money back I was given a gift card. Your policy says items can be returned with receipt so why was I not given money back? I am not sure what the point of getting a gift receipt is if you don't treat it the same as a return with receipt? This makes me think twice about buying anything in your store.

I tried to return paint brushes sent to me by my sister through the mail without the receipt. I was given the third degree about the brushes, and then informed I must have the receipt or the phone number of my sister for some rewards garbage. I wasn't trying to get a refund just exchange them for something else. My sister lost the receipt and didn't give her number when she purchased them. Now I am stuck with these brushes I don't need, and theveryone manager made it seem like I stole them. Very unprofessional and uncalled for. Will never go there again

Michaels customer service is horrible! I tried to return a $20 item without a receipt that my daughter got for her birthday and they said no-manager disgression. That is not in their return policy. I was not asking for a refund. I just wanted her to be able to exchange it for something else. Insane!

Was shocked to be charged a restocking fee for faux greenery stems I bought. They were too big for where I wanted to use them. They were 19.99 each. I returned them with the receipt two days later and only received 14.99 back for each. I was shocked!!! Micheals stole $20 from me. Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics will get my business from now on. I am telling all my friends not to shop at Michaels, go elsewhere.

Michaels in Redlands, CA is great! No "restocking fee" on returns or exchange, in fact, there'a no sich thing in the return policy online, so I'm not sure how they can get away with it in all these posts on this page :/
The store is always clean and well organized, staff is alway friendly. Maybe its the area. Its a nice shopping center, & is near other craft stores. If it was as a lot of you describe (in disaray, rude emoloyees, crappy return policy) I think it would go out of business. We have Joanne's & a few other small business local crafts stores that would be an atractive alternative if Michaels pulled that crap.

the frames I ordered were the wrong ones. it was not my mistake. Please send a return label so that I can send it back

Maybe it also has to do with the store you shop at. I've returned different items paints, paper, brushes, Art books, glue's, They never charged me a restocking fee, in fact I've dealt with nearly all of the employee's with in the 4 yrs I've shopped at Inglewood's, Store located off Village and Century, when I found items I needed like tubes of Acrylic paints and partially damaged, but still usable, they would allow me to buy it giving a huge discount more like a steal not just some employee's all of them very friendly and courteous.

Wow,reading Everybody's Post About Michaels Customer Service And Returns. I Will Not Shop There Any Longer. You Would Think The Michaels Owner(s) Would Be Concerned. When The Owners Do Not Care About Their Customer Service Business Starts To Fail! But I Guess You Have To Care About Your Business And Not Be In It For The Money Only!

I returned on onlone purchase to a retail store after the item arrived broken. I was reimbursed for the cost of the item, but not the shipping and tax. Wow. Not a great way to keep a customer. I'll be shopping elsewhere.

A restocking fee for Michaels. PATHETIC. Guess I'll shop at Joann's now. No more Michael's for me if they care more about ripping off consumers than providing a good experience.

So annoyed. I purchase things at my Micheals every week for the last year. Went to return a basket I purchased the day before and they only gave me 6.99 for a 9.99 purchase. I can walk the basket back to the basket pile myself, this two dollar fee is ridiculous. Very disappointed in this store.

What is it with Michael's and yarn? Tried returning two skeins of yarn as they were the wrong dye lot and stuck out against the yarn I already had. They were still in the wrappers, I had the receipt and had purchased them two...yes, TWO days before. I was told I would be charged a restock fee of $6, $2 for each skein. $2 for one of your employees to lumber back to the department and put it in a bin? Doesn't someone already have to go through that department and put the skeins back in the proper bins as part of his or her JOB? Granted the department looked like it hadn't been touched by an employee for days. I kept the yarn and sold it on etsy. No more shopping at Michael's, they probably charge a restocking fee for every item you return. Good way to make money when you suck.

My mother tried to exchange a skein of yarn without a receipt and the cashier told her that they could only give her a store credit. Then preceded to give her a store credit of $4.99 for a skein of yarn that she paid $6.99 for. When my mother asked her why she was only giving her $4.99 she stated that she was being charged $2.00 for putting the item back in the system. This is ridiculous considering she was willing to pay the difference to get a different color of yarn. I work in retail and I would never do a customer in such a manner. She will not be returning to your store again and neither shall I. I will let my family and friends know of the way she was done and I'm sure they will go else where as well.

Awful company! Disgusted by the way they treated me and talked to me. Refused to accept my coupon...called customer service and the manager hopefully got in trouble for yelling at me when he was wrong. My first time there and will NEVER RETURN TO SHOP AT MICHAELS!

Today I went to Michael's in Westminster, CO to return or exchange 3 coloring books I purchased for a Christmas gift exchange (which I didn't end up using)--and I had my receipt. The cashier told me that the policy for coloring books was that refunds could only be giving within 7 days of purchase (my purchase was made on Dec 23, 2015--10 days ago). Then I asked if I could exchange the coloring books for ones that were more to my liking. The cashier then told me that they don't do exchanges for coloring books. I asked where this was stated, as it didn't say anything about this on the receipt and they told me that their return policy was on the website. This is total BS. I checked the website and it says absolutely nothing about coloring books having to be returned within 7 days of purchase and nothing about not being able to exchange coloring books for other coloring books. So I thought I would try another Michael's where I have had much better experiences. So I headed to the Michael's in Superior, CO. I walked up to the cashier at the counter and asked what the return/exchange policy was for coloring books. He told me that if they were unused and I had my receipt, then I could return or exchange them. He made my day! I will never again step foot in the Michael's in Westminster. They are seriously lacking in the skill of providing good customer service. If you're in CO, shop at Michael's in Superior!!!

With in the 3 days of purchase my purse was stolen and the receipts where in their along with the credit card I payed with. I asked if I can exchange for stuff I really need and they said no!!! They where very rude and I will stick to Hobby Lobby from now on!! I learned my lesson,. :(

I attempted to return a craft kit to Michael's in Paramus New Jersey. It was unopened and in exactly the same condition as when I purchased it. I did not have have the receipt. I had all of my identification with me. They refused to look it up, or give me store credit because it was a "high end" item. Really?! Where on your return policy is THIS listed as a condition? Just down the highway in Paramus, there is a Tesla dealer and other very high-end auto dealers. Michael's sells many products and services such as framing that are much more costly. I will not be shopping at this Michael's ever again. In 3 weeks, your seasonal staff will be gone, and allowing them to make these kinds of decisions themselves is not great for your year-round bottom line. They don't understand about customer good will not do they care.

bought a Christmas Tree from Michael's 2 weeks ago at $149.99. Today I saw it on sale for $129.99 so I called Michael's in Deerfield Beach FL and asked for a refund of the difference. I was told that I would have to bring both my receipt and the tree back to get the $20 difference. Unbelievable! Why bother - just take the tree back, get a full refund and go somewhere else that provides better customer service (Target, Wal-mart, Lowes and Home Depot)? Needless to say, Michael's has lost a customer for life.

I had 3 big item to exchange without a reciept. The clerk said they were much to expensive for them to exchange... Or it was against their policy. So I said can I just return for store credit. Not knowing she did each exchange 3 different times on 3 different cards . I asked why cant u put the total amount on one gift card? She refused to answer.... Then when I returned to exchange a a non opened paint thinner the register had an alert warning in my personal Ca ID, stating that I had way to many returns without a receipt ???? So I was declined. Therefore the last visit return transactions put a dent in my personal shopping history with michaels... I do t get it. It's a craft store?, people are bound to need an exchange or return depending on the project. That's should be a rule to all crafters/artists...

Today i went to michaels to return my item i purchased i have my receipt payed with my debit card well my little girl she colors on the receipt so they say that they cant accept wow i just spent over $500 hundred dollars and you cant accept it. So i go home and tell my wife so she calls the corporate office and talks to someone and the lady tells my wife to hold on so when the lady comes she has the store manager on the other line and tells my wife that for her to bring it down but if i cant read it im not going to accept it but everything shows on there how much i spend and where i bought it from it just has a little scribble on it. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT MICHAELS AGAIN AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE THAT MICHAEL CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS AND ALSO THE RETURN POLICY

I bought 42 scrapbook papers on sale at 7/$1 or about 15 cents apiece. I determined I had too many of a particular color and brought them back to the store with my receipt, to exchange for another color. Since they were no longer on sale, I was charged 59 cents apiece. I was told that was their policy. While not a lot of money, this is an unfair practice.

Just left a Michaels store in saint louis where I was told I COULD NOT EXCHANGE without a receipt. Really? It was a $5 item. Who knows what happened to the receipt. Now I read that she COULD HAVE exchanged my item for me!! Not happy! Shame on you!!

i was in michaels today to use a gift card I had recieved. When cking out forgot to give the clerk my 40% off coupon. I purchased several items that were full price. the gift card was for $20. I paid the remainder with a personal ck. When I went back to the same clerk to use my 40% off coupon she told me I could not for 9 days bc I wrote a personal ck for $18.00. I do not drive and I was fortunate enough to get a ride! No way will I have to get there in 9 days. Today was my last [purchase at Michaels. I will go somewhere else!

I lost my receipt and had a very bad experience returning a 20.00 item and she was very rude and did not care that I paid 20. and she was going to give me 8.99 back....She was like go get your receipt then.

Very disappointed with Michaels customer service, I paid for my purchases with a check. As I was leaving the store, I looked at my receipt & noticed I had been charged full price for two sale items.I was told they could not refund the over charge, since I paid with a check, they gave me a plastic card to receive my money back. I went back to Michaels, two weeks later to pick up my cash and was told they couldn't give me a refund, cause I waited more than 10 days to claim my refund. Cashier & manager were rude & uncarring. They told me they could only give me credit on a purchase. It was like being robbed without using a gun. I will never shop there again & I have told all my fellow artist't about this incident, they also refuse to ever shop there again. So Michael's has lost many customers.jewels

I tried to return an unused cricut with the receipt and that did not work. I called customer service and that did not work. OMG what do I need to do to get my money back!

I had a very bad experience returning a cricut. The manager was rude and told me to call customer service. I called and I am still waiting. Very bad service!

Michaels Returns and Refunds policy is very unfair. Since their quality of the items they sell are very poor they know they will have lot of returns. Only way they can survive is to have very strict Return policy. Basically this means no Returns.

This is a first for me. I bought some items at Michaels 8/29/14 and paid by check. On 9/10/14 I tried to return some of the items to the same store, I was TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A refund and they did not know why but they gave me a phone number to call. when I got home it was 5 pm. I called and got a recording that Judy Soandso from corporate was not at her desk and for me to leave a detailed message and she would get back to me as soon as possible.I am guessing that I have to wait until tomorrow and hope that I am home or I have to call her again.

I don't like their return policy on items used & didn't work properly. I guess I have to return it to the original company.

Too bad for me, doesn't look like I have any recourse in getting a refund for the junkie poster frames I bought. Even though they weren't opened until a month ago, it's been more than two months since I bought them. They were just great until I put posters in them and hung them on the wall, then they warped and the frames fell apart. Pretty much useless now. Thankfully I don't shop at Michael's much, so never going back won't bother me.
